1960 eröffnete Hugh Heffner den ersten Playboy Club in Chicago. Für die mittlerweile legendären Kostüme der weiblichen Angestellten dort, ließ er sich von Burton Browns “Gaslight Club“, ebenfalls in Chicago inspirieren. Der Gaslight Club eröffnete 1953 mit den weiblichen Angestellten in Bunny-Kostümen und einem Programm aus Musik, Show und Illusionen.
Aus dem Jahr 1968 stammt das kleine Handbuch für des Playboy Clubs mit den Verhaltensregeln für die Bunnys. Regeln, an denen wir uns auch heute noch gut ein Beispiel nehmen können. Geknickte Ohren im Geschäftsleben sind einfach ein No Go.
- Chewing gum or eating in view of patrons
- Dirty or unpolished fingernails
- Bunny ears not worn in center of head, bent incorrectly
- Bikini panties showing or not worn
- Unkept tail
- In all cases when a Bunny is smoking while on duty, she is to “take a puff” and set the cigarette in an ashtray. Bunnies are not to stand or sit holding a cigarette.
- Good grooming starts with a daily bath and good deodorant.
- Twist, watusi, bugaloo, etc., are examples of acceptable dances.
